About the Author
After serving with the US Air Force Medical Service, Bill Oswalt earned a master's degree and a doctorate in ministry from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon. He is past president of Alpha-Omega Inc, a ministry providing biblical counseling to churches. He last served as a discipleship counselor with Northeast Bible Church in San Antonio, Texas. Now semi-retired in Thornton, TX with his wife Iris the mother of six boys (grown and gone). He is presently developing a workbook on spiritual giftedness.

finding the true meaning

This ministry saved my relationship with my Savior and my family. Everything in the beatitudes is applied to daily living and understanding what the Bible really means. I read this book many years ago and keep applying the concepts I have discovered that provide true happiness in this life. Other counseling did not change my thinking. Read it through and see for your self. You will not be disappointed. God's word does not return void!

beautiful, amazing, special & perfect for anyone who wants to knit for Christmas

Christmas is fast approaching so it's
time to get those Christmas pattern books
out and start making.
If you are looking for beautiful small projects
that can make Christmas super special
then this book is ideal.
The projects are amazing.
The patterns are for everything from a full
nativity set to Santa and his sleigh.
You can use the projects in multiple ways.
You can hang the cute little presents on your tree.
Decorate you mantelpiece with them
or place them in Santa's sleigh.
Each of the projects are super cute and small
so don't take up much yarn.
Wouldn't all the reindeer's with the sleigh
and Santa look good decorating your house.
Or how about making them for someone special.
Included in the book are patterns for everything
for a nativity set.
Mary, Joseph, Jesus, Angel, Star,
A Stable (which can be closed and holds everything),

Every pattern you will need to have mini Christmas items--Nativity, Santa and More!

This book has such a great variety of patterns. There are patterns for a complete Nativity as well as non-religious ones. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. Good trilogy, very enjoyable read.

I enjoyed all three books, book3 was the best, book1 came in second and book3 was my least favorite. In all 3 books the characters were well defined and performed within the boundaries of their characters, by this I mean if there character was basically a bad person they didn't suddenly help little old ladies cross the street etc. The story line was weak in that If I had personnel that could pass as humans, why would I use a different species to guard my all important portal for traveling between worlds. I would use my own people. The story line was strong in that we saw that not all people of any of the three species were bad, there were good and bad people within each species just trying to live their lives as best they could. Unspoken plot line "if all people could sit down and talk about just surviving without all the nationalistic BS the world could be a better place". As a teenager I believed that could happen, as a senior citizen I believe it will never happen unless our world is threatened with total destruction. No blatant sex although we knew who did and didn't without blow by blow descriptions. There was violence but it was far less than first 20 minutes of "Saving Private Ryan". I believe my 14 yr old granddaughter would like these books and I would have no objection to her reading them.

Guardians of the Portal Trilogy

I read all three books in one weekend. The content was creative, intriguing, and well written, and kept my attention the entire time. I liked the characters, the plot, and the overall ending of the series. The only downside to the series was that the first two books left off on a cliffhanger, but since I bought all 3 books together that was not a problem for me.

I honestly wish that the series wasn't over. I would like to say thank you to the author for the hours of enjoyment I had losing myself in her worlds and characters, and request that if the author doesn't plan on continuing the series, that perhaps a spin-off could be written for Layla.

I reviewed the first book and liked it, but the whole series upgraded my feelings to love. The characters get more complex treatment as they grow in responsibility and accept the fact that blindly following rules is still blindness. Rules have reasons, and unless you know what they are and why they were made, you cannot responsibly and constructively understand when to break them and how. This is all a part of growing up, and something that few coming-of-age books deal with. Breaking rules to grow, yeah; the importance of understanding where they came from, no. So I love this series.

this is a true romantic story I've ever read Abby just a secretary and Jackson a handsome sexy billionaire she was getting to get fired for not listening to her boss at first then he realized how much everyone had liked the event so instead of firing her he had a plan to fake an engagement for a few weeks that turned out to be somewhat crazy and sweet you'll have to read the book to find out more I love this romantic playful story line incredible worth reading The Author Veronica Sexton knows what she's doing to make it a real page turner very recommended!

If the title of this book had been "Making Basic Candies" instead of "Candy Making Basics", I might not have been as disappointed. Of course, I probably wouldn't have bought the book, either. As it is, though, instead of learning the basics of candy making, I got about 15 pages of discussion of some techniques followed by about 90 pages of recipes.
Plus, about 3/4 of the recipes were just variations on the other 1/4. The book did include recipes for a few of the basic pieces (butter, but not milk, caramel, marshmallows, and fondant, though it excluded nougat and marzipan for some reason, unless I just missed those pages), and they will be helpful to me, but they were pure recipes with no discussion of why you need to do anything.
For example, one recipe might say to bring a mixture to 238 degrees over medium heat while another says to do it over low heat. Why? What would happen if I boiled the latter over medium heat? Why must this kind of candy be stirred constantly for 22 minutes while that kind only needs occasional stirring? Why did she decide to add butter to the chocolate in the rocky road? What effect does it have? How do I control the texture of caramels? Why add chocolate to your fudge before heating instead of after?
Also, the author explicitly chose to omit all recipes requiring tempered chocolate. She included a number that call for chocolate flavored covering, though, which often left me wondering whether the chocolate flavored covering was there as a substitute for tempered choclate, or because it actually works better for the application.
The book also doesn't contain any information on common problems with the recipes, how to work around those problems, or even good definitions of basic terms (what exactly makes a fondant a fondant, anyway?)
I learned more about the basics of candy making from the sections on sugar and chocolate in "On Food and Cooking" (ISBN 0684843285) than I did from this book. I am really disappointed, because this is one of the few books I've found that purports to discuss the basics of candy making in a broad sense.
My next read on the subject will be "Candymaking" (ISBN 0895863073). It sounds like that book will be much closer to what I want.

Fun Cookbook!

What an AWFUL cookbook!

I am new to candy making so I bought this book since it's supposed to be "basic". It is absolutely awful! I made two batches of fudge (one called "never fail"). The first never set and the second cooked down so much it was harder than a rock. I've never experienced a cookbook that left out as many steps as this one or was as inconsistant. First, some crucial steps were left out like letting the fudge cool down to 110 degrees before beating it (this is in a sidenote in the front under "tips"). One would think that such an important step would be included in the recipe itself. Second, in one recipe she states that it should take 10 minutes to get to soft ball stage, in another it should take 7 minutes and others it takes 30 minutes. Why the difference? I can tell you from experience that it should NOT be cooked for 30 minutes. I am unable to trust any recipe in this book. I've had great success with recipes on the internet. That's where I'd suggest getting recipes before buying this terrible book.
