About the Author

Jennings Bryant is Professor and holder of the Ronald R. Reagan endowed Chair of Broadcasting in the College of Communication at the University of Alabama. He is the founding co-editor of the Media Psychology journal, and serves on the editorial boards of 11 scholarly journals. His primary research interests are in entertainment theory, media effects, advanced communications technologies and systems, and media education.

Mary Beth Oliver is Professor and Co-Director of the Media Effects Research laboratory in the College of Communications at Penn State University. She specializes in media and psychology, with a focus on both the psychological effects of media and viewers' attraction to or enjoyment of media content. Her research includes studies pertaining to media violence, reality-based television programs, gender differences in enjoyment of media entertainment, viewers' responses to melodramas and sad films, and the effect of media portrayals of racial groups on viewers' racial attitudes.

Must Have Book! For Intl Student Using Apple, Don't Panic if You Cant Download the Amazon Kindle Reader App

Love to buy e-book because I can read it on any devices right away and it synced perfectly well across devices. Also love the function of popular highlights on the app. Well, that's what an e-book and its complimentary app should be, right?
As for the content, tt's a must have book for anyone who wants to study mass communication theory! You will find it really helpful to grasp the basic of communication studies.

I had a problem with the process of downloading the app on my iPad/iPhone but the Amazon Kindle assistant was really helpful. The problem was I cannot find it on the app store or use the link Amazon sent me. Apparently it because I bought the devices abroad and the Amazon Kindle app is not available in all regions. If it happens to you just go to setting on your Apple devices and change the region to US, the app will magically appear and you ready to go.

Hit and miss

This textbook on mass communication theories is organized well, and about half the writing is clear and easy to understand. The other half is convoluted and poorly written. I give this textbook three stars because it's OK for class, but if you're doing any kind of serious research, I wouldn't bother.

It's wonderful. Very imaginative and fleshes out the Jakku sequence ...

Picked this up last night "for my kid" *cough* (we don't have kids).

It's wonderful. Very imaginative and fleshes out the Jakku sequence of The Force Awakens tremendously. If you liked this part of the film (and I *loved* that part of the film), this is a nice counterpart. There's enough back story in this little volume to support an entire saga of spin-offs. Highly recommended.

Rey's Scrapbook

The book is told in first person by Rey with her perspective/knowledge of the lay of the land on Jakku including the artifacts, residents, creatures, various ships that crash landed on the planet, and how to survive the hostile planet. The text tries to mimic Rey's handwriting as well as additions of sketches of her own drawings and taped on documents. It's a great replica journal as seen in collector's edition of video games (Halo and Mass Effect for example)

Aside from the intro and Addendum, this is not a linear story, so you have the freedom to jump around as you like within the book. There's a lot cannon material (book licensed by Disney, Trademarked by Lucasfilms LTD) that don't appear in the movie throughout. At the end of the survival guide there's a addendum section where picks off events from the movie from when she picks up BB-8 to just right before she lands in Takodana where she meets Maz, an old friend of Chewie

There are 4 fold pages within the book making it more of an immersive experience as well as expand the schematics shown within the book such as the At-At or Imperial Star Destroyer for example

Wished there was a variant cover which resembles more of a an actual replica journal. I guess the marketing team want to plaster a lot of movie graphics on the front and back cover so it's more appealing/eye-catching on store shelves. Which may have a lot of kids who are fans of Rey grabbing it off the selves, but may be glanced over by the older crowd wanting more backstory.

Enjoyable read if you want a more in depth look into Rey's character and experiences. Great hidden gem, a must buy for Star Wars fans

Great Reference Guide

My 8 year old loved the prequel book, A Queen's Diary. I initially assumed this book would be similar. It's not, at all. As an avid Star Wars fan for life, I found that *I* loved reading this book, which is more like a reference guide than a journal. It offered a lot of insights that the movie left out about Jakku. I would recommend this book for true Star Wars fans who want to learn about the world Rey lives in, including LOTS of details about Star Wars spacecrafts and clues about Rey's past. I would not recommend the book for children who are not already madly in love with Star Wars.

Not what you can see in the look inside

I have sent back the book to Amazon. While you can see color photos in the "look inside" at the Amazon's website, the book comes with tiny black and white photos at very low resolution. Thus, it is impossible for instance, to see the position of the hands in specific techniques. Moreover, although the Korean text is good for those who speak Korean but I find the author should focuse in one language and count on translated editions for other markets. This would reduce notably the size of the book and could include further explanations about each technique, which I also found them very limited.

Great book to use as a technical reference, with technique names in korean and english.

The book gives a pretty good overview over most techniques common to various Hapkido styles, and also adds a bunch of functional ground techniques not commonly taught in Hapkido. As another reviewer commented, the book I received had photos in b/w, instead of in color as seen in the preview, which make it harder to see what's going on in some of the photos. However, as I already know most of the techniques in the book, I will primarily use it as a technical reference, and for that role it's perfect.

Also, as someone else pointed out, the text in the book is in both korean and english, with each technique first described in korean(in hangul nonetheless), and then in english, with the name of most techniques spelled out in korean hangul, romanized hangul and then english. I think this is great, as I finally have learned correct korean names for several of the techniques I have only learned with numbers or names in english or in my native language earlier, and the fact that each technique is also described in korean, makes it much easier to practice them with koreans who may not speak any of the languages I do.

The ground fighting portion of the book seems for the most part to be lifted straight out of BJJ (including the names of the techniques, such as butterfly guard, americana, omoplata, etc.). That said, the ground techniques presented is all good, practical and mostly basic BJJ of white and blue belt level, and should complement traditional hapkido practitioners game well.

All in all a very good book, but i can imagine that the fact that the photos i B/W can be a turnoff for some people, especially since all the techniques is demonstrated by two people both wearing white doboks/gis against a gray background.

Masahiko Nakahira bring on the paper to my opinion the best art for street fighter about Ryu Gill, and naturally about the Master of the Fist!
Gouken, and others chars are all awesome!
This manga is the best you can have if u 're a mad fan about SF series like me! Proud to have this manga!
Masahiko Nakahira is great! Naturally i'm speaking about the 1 and the 2 vol. of RYU FINAL, the end is very shocking!
If you wanna pass an hour or an hour and half so deep in a manga read this masterpiece by Nakahira and you won't be disappointed!

A must have if you like the Udon SF Books

I grew up playing SF and love the legacy and the culture that it has brought to gaming. If you like the Udon comics, love the original SF: Animated Movie, feverish about SFIII: 3rd strike, then you will enjoy this book.
Ups: Great Art, great fights, nice match ups, smooth story, artist and writer is also a fan, all around great.

Downs: True fans would want a 13 manga series b/c it feels short and doesn't preview fights other than what we are given but i'm thankful for it.

Overall 5/5 bc i am a fan. If i wasn't 4.5/5 bc it could have been longer than 2 books but still great.

Recommendation: Buy UDON SF books, Darkstalkers by UDON, SVC Chaos, and Sakura's mangas. All Great Works.

Wonderful articulation of Narrative Therapy that is accessible to both service users and clinicians.

This was my second reading through David's "Retelling the Stories of our Lives." Upon first reading, I was struck by the accessibility of the book as David offers exercises and plain descriptions. This helps facilitate the learning and practicing of Narrative Therapy for both therapists and those looking to respond to problems in their lives.

With my second reading I was drawn deeper into David's attention to the collective elements of Narrative Therapy. His incorporation of audience has always been a part of his work that inspires me to focus more on audiences in my practice and I find myself thinking even more, now, about incorporating teams and collective documents in my work with young people and their families.

Readers might also be interested in David's ideas around trauma and loss. So often our field becomes protective of the way therapists approach therapeutic change with people experiencing trauma and loss. David offers attractive alternatives to traditional models of approaching trauma and loss in a collective style that I'm confident will appeal to many populations. It is refreshing to see the alternatives that David's application of collective ideas to trauma and loss offers to service users and therapists alike.

Whether you've been using Narrative ideas in your work for some time, you are new to narrative ideas, or are interested in using Narrative ideas for change in your life, you should find David's writing wonderfully helpful.

The ideas in this book have been very useful in my work as a therapist and in my life

If you work as a therapist or people consult you about their life in some way, this book can be very helpful. When talks about our life as stories, you are coauthor of them. You learn to offer people who they want to write the story of their life, other people or themselves. It talk of life as a journey, when you have a problem you migrate from one way of being to a way you prefer, preparing yourself for the hard times.
The way it talks about death and grieving in its chapter Hello again, how we want to deal with our loses, we can keep the relationship if we want, we know the person is gone but we can remember how she or he was and could still have a kind of conversation with them.
Talking about trauma, you learn about double listening; the story of trauma and the story of what the person did to deal with it, and how it didm't destroy what is important and precious for them. What was that the person did or how tried to stop it or reduce the effects of trauma, and all this is according to what he or she consider important and valuable.
The book starts with the Tree of Life that is a way of telling the story of your life from what is important to you, your skills, friends, people that had helped you and even pets that are recognized as company and special for some people without pathology them Also the book talks and question about normality and its relation with personal failure.
The book also shares stories of people to support the ideas in it, and to make them clearer.
Is a very good book, good ideas, good examples, clear writing, with new and refreshing ideas.

Very happy I got this book. Easy for just about anyone to understand and relate to. Suggested techniques are very practical and people can just sit down and do them - without "planning ahead" for the right time or any of those other great excuses for not doing anything at all. Real. Useful. Practical. Effective.

The most touching words "my quest is you" have never been poignantly uttered by any of Ms. le Veque's heroes as they were spoken in this latest novel.

This visually rich and beautifully written story centers on the recently widowed Lady Diamantha Edlington (daughter of Michael de Bocage from THE WOLFE). As her husband lay dying during the Battle of Falkirk he asks his friend, one of the greatest knights of the realm, Cortez de Bretagne, to grant him a dying wish by marrying his young widow. This was not a hardship for Cortez as he was recently widowed himself, and his dearly departed wife and Diamantha had been best of friends. Cortez had always thought, even during his previous marriage, that Diamantha was THE most beautiful woman in all of England. To him it was a win-win situation.

Of course, Diamantha didn't see the situation the same way Cortez did. After a very rocky head start between the hero and heroine Cortez agrees to take Diamantha and her daughter Sophie on the quest to recover Robert Edlington's body from the Falkirk battlefield for proper burial and for final closure on that chapter in Diamantha's life.

Along the way to Scotland from England, Cortez and Diamantha experienced many adventures. They were each able to see the other in a new light. The twists and turns in this story were a-ma-zing!

Diamantha's 'quest' was to recover her husband's body for closure so she could emotionally move on to the new chapter in her life with Cortez, and Cortez's 'quest' was Diamantha. Be prepared to clutch your heart as you read Cortez's tender vow to Diamantha. Also, have some tissues ready when you read the epilogue.

I savored each and every word of this long anticipated novel as if it were a box of expensive Swiss chocolate - it was THAT good!

This Book Had Me At 3% - A Fantastic, fantastic Story - Grab a Box of Kleenex...You have Been Warned

Cortez de Bretagne is a famous knight from a reknowned and respected family. He is dark haird and darked eyed. He is half Spaniard and half Welsh. He has suffered tragedy in his life with the death of his wife and daughter, three years prior to the Battle of Falkirk. At this battle, Cortez the honorible knight that he is, makes a promise to a friend, which he intends to keep and see through.

Diamantha de Bocage Edlington also comes from an impressive lineage of famous knights. Her father, Sir Michael de Bocage served Wiliam de Wolfe, her grandmother was the daughter of Christopher de Lohr and her great grandfather was Ajax de Velt. Any one who has read this author's other books will recognize all of these names. Throughout this magnificent story there will be even more names of others you will recognize. Diamantha has the eyes of Ajax de Velt, two-colored and is beautiful with Reddish brown hair.

I try not to do spoilers so here it is... these two will meet and the battle, the heartfelt journey and quest begin for all involved.

This magnificent book, had me at 3%. What do I mean? WelI, I can tell you at 3% of this book I was sobbing and had to stop reading. Throughout the reading of this book I had to literally have a box of Kleenex next to me. It was that emotional and heart wrenching for me personally.

I normally read a book a day. I could not do this with The Questing because I had to stop reading because I was emotionally drained. It took me 3 nights to finish it. Now this is definately not a negative, on the contrary it is a huge compliment to this gifted and fabulous author. I will honestly tell you, I have never come across a Medieval book that has done this to me to this degree. Only one other book came close in this genre and it was Lord of the Shadows and I can tell you it was not to the degree of this book, The Questing.

I highly recommend this book. This author slings you over her shoulder and deposits you into such an emotional journey with these characters in The Questing. She has outdone herself.

I can only hope I piqued your interest and you can obtain The Questing and enjoy it as much as I did. For me The Questing is a keeper, which I will re-read over and over, over the years.

I am so glad I read this book from one of my favorite authors. Ms Le Veque does a fabulous job at writing knights who are so heroic in times when war is involved, especially at the Battle of Falkirk. So many English and Scottish warriors were lost during this episode. You can feel the pain especially when one man is shot with a cross bow and he knows that the end is near. Robert Edlington is that man and he wants a promise from his friend to take care of his family. Robert insists that Cortez de Bretagne marry his Lady wife Diamantha and be a father to his daughter Sophie. Of course, Cortez is astonished by this, and tells Robert that he will get help. But Robert will take no for an answer and Cortez agrees. When the battle is over, Cortez must travel to tell Robert's widow that her husband's last wish was for marriage. Diamantha being the widow with a child to raise, will marry him on one condition. He must take her with him to locate her husband's body and bring it back home for burial. There are many conflicts trying to deter the mission. But their "quest" was destined to bring them on a journey to find love again.
